The agreement was signed following the 12th meeting of the India-Water Joint Committee, co-chaired by Sushma Swaraj, India`s Foreign Minister, and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed al-Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. On August 16, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, the first state visit by an Indian prime minister to the country in 34 years. The agreement, which will enter into force on March 9, will last 40 years, the WAM said. Upon receipt of the application, the competent authority makes the matter available to decide whether the application meets the statutory requirements and, therefore, accepts or rejects the application.
